Nappy Changing & Potty Training policy & Procedure

Intent
Little Munchkins Pre-School intends not to deprive any child starting pre-school at the correct time due to them still wearing nappies/pull-ups.
Little Munchkins Nursery intends to change nappies at regular times during the day to ensure that no child is left feeling uncomfortable.

Aim
We aim to inform all new parents that the pre-school will come to an arrangement with them to allow their child to start Pre-School in Nappies, also work together with parents to aid in potty training when the child is ready.

Methods

• Parents are required to sign permission form so that staff members can change nappies during session time, all nappy changes are recorded with date, time and staff name in the child’s individual nappy book. 
• If parent does not sign permission form, then parents will be contacted so that they can come and change their child’s nappy.
• All nappies are double bagged and disposed off in the nappy bin, which is collected weekly.
• Put disposable Gloves on
  Using disinfectant wipes clean down changing mat.
  Change soiled nappy and double bag,
  Clean child with supplied wipes; Wipes and disposable gloves must go in nappy bag with soiled nappy.
  Disinfect changing mat and place back in storage area.
  Wash hands and record in child nappy changing book.
• Remind child at regular intervals to use the toilet or potty, when the child does so give lots of encouragement and praise. After child has used potty or toilet encourage them to wash hands.
• If a child has a toilet accident deal with it without any fuss, and in private, getting child into clean clothes as soon as possible. Do not make the child feel bad or embarrassed about the accident by showing your disapproval.
